The Philippine Army (PA) has said, that it has opened the recruitment of 6,100 new soldiers this year to strengthen its forces against insurgency and terrorism.

Philippine Army spokesman Lt. Col. Louie D. Villanueva said the service command recently approved the opening of 3,600 annual regular quota and an additional 2,500 for 2018. A total of 6,100 slots are now open.

Out of the total number of recruits, five percent is allocated for female recruits and another five percent from the indigenous peoples.

According to Villanueva, the additional quota recruits will be filling up the troop requirements for the conceptualized activation of 10 new Infantry Battalions and one Scout Ranger Battalion (SRB).

Villanueva said that as of today, seven out of the 10 Infantry Battalions and the Scout Ranger Battalion have already been activated.

“These additional Army units aim to further strengthen the Army’s capability in addressing the various threats, particularly terrorism besetting the country,” he said.

Villanueva said the recruitment is now ongoing and the training will start not later than June 2018. Interested applicants may visit the Army recruitment centers located in three major areas namely: Cagayan De Oro City, Cebu City, and Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. They may also browse the Philippine Army website or visit the nearest Army base in their respective localities for inquiries.

The Philippine Army will prioritize its recruitment in the following order:

• Graduates of Military Science 43 and Advance ROTC;
• College graduates;
• Those with 72 units and up in college;
• High school graduates but possess technical and vocational skills needed by the Philippine Army.

An applicant must be a natural born Filipino citizen; at least 18 to 25 years old on the date of appointment as candidate soldier; at least 5’0″ or 60 inches in height; single and without child; of good moral character; passed the Philippine Army Aptitude Test Battery / Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test; passed the prequalifying physical fitness test and physical medical exam; and must be physically and mentally fit for military training.

“With the current efforts of the Army to further build up its force, there is a good opportunity that has been opened for our youth and everyone who would like to serve the country. Soldiery is a noble profession that is not only different and worthwhile, but also offers continuous growth and career development,” Villanueva said.

Villanueva said the Philippine Army, under the stewardship of Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, aims to continue its mission of developing a modern Army that is responsive and capable of addressing threats against its people and the sovereignty of the country.

Requirements For Philippine Army Recruitment

At least 17 years old but not a day older than 22 years on 01 April of the year following the date of examination taken.

Applicants younger than 17 years old or/and at least 16 years old on 01 April following the date of examination may apply for cadetship provided that the applicant possesses the above mentioned qualifications. Should the applicant pass the qualifying exam, the procedure in handling the underage applicants will apply.

For Officer Candidates that will undergo Officer Candidate Course (OCC), he/she must possess the following qualifications:

• Holder of a baccalaureate degree;
• Natural-born Filipino
• 21 to 29 years of age upon admission (no age waiver);
• Single and never been married; never borne or sired a child;
• Height of not less than 5’0 ft. (152.4cm) both for male and female, but not more than 6’4” (193.04 cm);
• Of good moral character;
• Physically, mentally and psychologically fit for active military service (P1 profile);
• Armed Forces of the Philippines Service Aptitude Test(AFPSAT) raw score of 71 or higher;
• Must have passed other pre-entry written examinations given by the Philippine Army (Army Qualifying Exam (AQE) & Special Written Exam (SWE)); and
• Must pass the Physical Medical Exam and Physical Fitness Test conducted in the Philippine Army thru PAOSC

For Officer Candidates that will undergo the Officer Preparatory Course (OPC), he/she must have the following qualifications:

• Commissioned in the Reserve Force as second lieutenant
• Must not be over 31 years old on the date of Called to Active Duty (CAD);
• Physically, mentally and psychologically fit for active military service (P1 profile);
• Holder of a baccalaureate degree;
• Height of not less than 5’0 ft. (152.4cm) both for male and female, but not more than 6’4” (193.04 cm);
• Of good moral character;

Be an Enlisted Personnel:

For Candidate Soldiers, he must possess the following qualifications:

• Natural-born Filipino citizen
• With 72 units in college or if a high school graduate, must possess technical skills/talents needed by the AFP;
• At least 18 to 23 years old before the date of appointment as Candidate Soldier;
• At least 5’0” or 60 inches in height. Similarly, height waiver is no longer issued by the Command;
• Single and without child;
• Of good moral character;
• AFPSAT score of at least 45;
• Must have passed the pre-qualifying PFT and PME; and
• Physically and mentally fit for military training

To be qualified in taking the AFPSAT, the candidate must bring the following documents:

• Original Transcript of Record/Form 137
• Original College Diploma
• Original Birth Certificate (NSO)
• Valid Identification Card
• 2×2 Picture
