One thing I learned as a regular and an excessive user of internet that this thing is really getting serious. Even more serious than making chat friends, searching for life partners and meeting them. There was this chat friend whom I came in touch with via facebook. We shared messenger ids and used to chat a lot. It was actually the time when my girl friend had ditched me. Then I don’t know when we started calling each other as boy friend and girl friend. Please note we haven’t met each other yet, neither talked on phone nor heard voices even. I had not seen any pic of her too. We have love filled chats pampering each others like true lovers. All this is kinda funny. Then we share numbers and I also happen to see one or two pics of her. But how she looks didn’t matter much as it was just an internet affair, far apart from reality.
Then one day I got a call from her brother. As I picked up the phone he started abusing me. Using all sort of Indian slangs and asking me not to contact that girl ever. Initially was stunned but then I thought may be he happened to read some of our chat and that’s why he got angry. I was pretty casual about it and clocked that girl from chats and all. She already wasn’t in my friend lists of a few sites which meant she too has started the process of removing me from her every contact list. Days were silent then. No calls, no chats, no texts just nothing.
Almost 20-25 days later I got a call from her. Initially I thought shall I pick it or not? But then I picked thinking that she might be saying good bye or may be 1% that she might apologize for what her brother said to me. But what I happen to hear was far beyond imagination. She said to me that she has spoken to her family about me n her and they want to meet me once. I was shocked!! Simply so frightened hearing that and could not think of a word to utter out. How can she be so serious about this thing?
Calming down a bit I somehow managed to say that I am focusing on other priorities right now and don’t want to get into such stuff. That I still feel for my ex and that after her brother called up I thought it is over you know, all sort of lame excuses to somehow say no to her so that she doesn’t know I am actually not so serious about all this and to be safe. Phew!! She just slammed the phone down.
I was thinking about what just happened. Can someone really get serious about someone without even meeting in person and knowing if the other person is true or not? I was freaked out with this thing. What if this girl is serious enough and tries to hurt herself or something? Is she really serious or is just making a fun of me by teaming up with her brother and playing these pranks on me?
I realized this fact that day that it is no joke at all. Firstly, internet is really getting serious. Be it match making. Be it love affairs. Be cautious as the people on the other side can be serious about getting a life partner and might consider you one.
Thankfully we chat again now but just as friends. But this thing still haunts me.
